Artbox 2025 submission
Earlier this year, I submitted a piece to Artbox, a competition run by the City of Gold Coast’s Arts and Culture sector. My work was a bright, celebratory collage of local sea life — hand-illustrated fish, prawns, oysters, seagulls, and shells, drawn in pencil and ink.
“Artbox is an initiative to reduce graffiti on the City’s traffic signal boxes, beautify our neighbourhoods, and support local artists. The initiative showcases artworks installed on traffic signal boxes across the Gold Coast. It is part of our graffiti prevention strategy.”
Each element was carefully sketched and then collated in Photoshop, where I layered the drawings into a vibrant digital composition. The result was a colorful snapshot of coastal life — a playful nod to the creatures that make this place feel alive and brimming with character.
Although I wasn’t selected as a finalist, the experience was a rewarding step in my artistic journey. Since moving to the Gold Coast in 2023 to be closer to my family, fish and sea creatures have become recurring themes in my work, and this project was a joyful way to explore that connection further.
